Google April Fools’ Day

We all know that Google likes to joke around. And what a better day to make a good joke than April 1st, also known as April Fools’ Day. It is a tradition to google to make hoaxes on this day, and has been doing it for many years. So what is next?

The first hoax that google made was in 2000 with the google MentalPlex, a system that reads the mind on the user and searches what he wants, withount the user to have to type something. After that, in2002, google announcement of PigeonRank. In 2004 google announced Google Lunar, a space station on moon where they will do research. In 2005 the Google Gulp, a dictionary energy drink.

The best one was in 2006 with the announcement of Google Romance, a dating search engine that searches your pair, arranges dating and makes sure that all goes well. This was a really good one because googla has the power to search on Dating Websites and send result depending on genr, interests and other things that a person may find attractiv to someone.

At about 10:00 PM Pacific time (where Google has its headquarters) the day before April 1, 2007, Google changed the login page for Gmail to announce a new service called Gmail Paper. This actually pretended to print your email on paper and send them my post to your address. This was also a good hoax because google also found a solution for the cost: ads will be also printed on the other side of the paper.

A more funny hoax was also in 2007 with the “release” of Google TiSP (short for Toilet Internet Service Provider), where you will get access to internet for free through the toilet. This was very funny but also very well planned, because google had an explication for everything: ” The user would then connect their end to a Google-supplied wireless router and run the Google-supplied installation media on a Windows XP or Vista computer (”Mac and Linux support coming soon”). Alternatively, a user could request a professional installation, in which Google would deploy nanobots through the plumbing to complete the process.

So this was a history lesson. But will google make this year? We will just have to wait and see. But don’t think that if it is released on 1st of April than it is a hoax. Google also lunched other services that are real and good on 1st april. Shortly before midnight on March 31, 2004, Google announced the launch of Gmail. Some believed it was a hoax, because free web-based e-mail with one gigabyte of storage was unheard of at the time. In 2005, Google increased Gmail storage to two gigabytes and released Google Ride Finder.
